Antique 19th Century Japanese-Style Tansu Chest
Description: A magnificent late 19th to early 20th-century Japanese-style tansu chest. This piece features a rich, deep red lacquer finish that allows the natural grain of the wood—likely chestnut or cedar—to subtly show through.
The chest is heavily adorned with traditional hand-forged iron hardware (Kanagu), including stylized "warabite" (bracken-hand) drawer pulls and ornate circular lock plates. The layout features four full-width drawers and a secure "safe box" door on the lower right, which hides smaller internal drawers for valuables.
Very Good Antique Condition. The lacquer retains a beautiful, warm luster with minor surface abrasions and "honest wear" typical of a century-old functional piece. The iron hardware is secure and displays a natural aged patina.
Size: 43” x 38” x 17”
