Chinese Hand-Painted Tiered Wood Wedding Basket

These tall, tiered wedding baskets were traditionally used to transport dowry items and gifts between family homes at the time of an engagement or formal marriage. Presently, they serve as lovely symbols of unity and of design from other cultures. This particular piece features wood basket making, metalwork and hand-painted designs. The height lends itself to serving as a side table, cocktail table or podium stand for an art piece. 
 
Excellent condition given the age of the items. Some of the wooden pieces’ joints have become more delicate; this basket would work better as an accent piece than practically.
