A stunning example of Wedgwood Jasperware featuring a striking high-contrast color scheme of matte black basalt with white bas-relief applique. The vessel is designed in a classic trophy or urn shape with a flared rim and a pedestal foot. The central decorative band depicts a "Sacrifice to Hymen" or similar Neoclassical mythological scene, featuring finely detailed figures, a cherub atop a plinth, and a sacrificial altar. The base of the body is encircled with a white laurel leaf border. The underside bears the authentic impressed mark "WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND".
