19th Century Korean Brass-Mounted Bandaji Blanket Chest
Description: An exceptional antique Korean Bandaji (blanket chest) featuring a drop-front upper panel for easy access. Constructed from rich, dark-toned wood—likely Elm or Zelkova—this piece is heavily adorned with ornate hand-hammered brass "swallowtail" hinges, auspicious symbol plates, and geometric studs.
The interior is beautifully preserved, lined with original or period-correct Hanji paper featuring handwritten Hanja characters, traditionally used to protect fine silks and textiles. This chest serves as a functional storage piece or a striking statement console.
Excellent Antique Condition. The wood retains a deep, lustrous patina. Brass hardware is intact (see photos for missing pieces) with a natural aged oxidation. The interior paper lining shows authentic age-related toning and minor wear consistent with history, adding to its character.
