Antique Chinese "Double Happiness" Marriage Chest
Description: A stunning example of 19th-century Chinese craftsmanship, this marriage chest is constructed from solid elm (Yumu) with a rich, dark hand-rubbed lacquer finish. The front is dominated by an oversized circular brass "Double Happiness" (Shuangxi) medallion, which serves as both the closure and a symbolic wish for a joyful union.
The chest features traditional mitered joinery and rests on a simple, sturdy base. The hand-forged brass hardware has developed a soft, authentic patina over time.

• Details: The chest is in remarkable structural condition. The lacquer finish shows beautiful, age-appropriate craquelure and minor surface wear. Note the brass hardware is missing the central locking pin.
