Description

An evocative Meiji to Taisho era (late 19th - early 20th century) kakejiku (hanging scroll) featuring a majestic rooster rendered in traditional sumi-ink and delicate mineral pigments on paper. The composition showcases a bold, expressive rooster—a symbol of courage and punctuality in Japanese culture—set against a minimalist landscape.

The artwork is elegantly mounted on a patterned silk brocade border with traditional turned wood rollers at the base. The piece includes hand-brushed calligraphy and a red artist seal (hankō).

Excellent Antique Condition. The pigment remains vibrant with minimal foxing (age spots) or creasing. The silk mounting is intact with no significant fraying.
